Determining ACA Eligibility for New Hires

When determining full-time eligibility for new hires, both the initial measurement period and the standard measurement period are used. The initial measurement period and the standard measurement period will determine full-time eligibility for the initial stability period and standard stability period respectively. Depending on the hours worked by the employee during each period, they will be either eligible or ineligible for each stability period.

Possible full-time scenarios

  • Employee full-time eligible during initial stability period, not eligible during standard stability period
  • Employee not full-time eligible during initial stability period, eligible during standard stability period
  • Employee full-time eligible for both initial stability period and standard stability period
  • Employee full-time eligible for neither initial stability period nor standard stability period
