FAQs about using Lyft Line

When you pay for Line rides using your commuter benefits prepaid card, you can save up to  40% using pre-tax  dollars on your door-to-door rides. 

Riders are eligible to use pre-tax dollars on Line rides if their employer provides them and if they live in the following cities:

  • Atlanta
  • Austin
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Denver
  • Las  Vegas
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • Nashville
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Philadelphia
  • Portland
  • San Diego
  • San Francisco
  • Silicon Valley
  • Seattle
  • Washington D.C.

Not all employers offer commuter benefits; check with your employer to see if they do.

You'll be able to use your commuter benefits prepaid card as a payment method, and you won't have to select a new ride type. When requesting a Line ride, just choose your commuter benefits prepaid card as your payment method. Make sure you do this before requesting a Line, as you can't change the payment type after the ride.


When you request a Line using your commuter benefits prepaid card, you will be riding in a car with at least six passenger seats.

Some providers do not offer that capability, but we hope to support that feature with providers that do in the future.

Yes, you can bring one other person if you request a Line ride for two people. Please note that an additional fee applies for an additional rider.

Since there are fewer cars with six seats or more on the road, your ETA may be a little longer than usual when you request a Line using your commuter benefits prepaid card. If you're in a time crunch, avoid stressing by simply requesting a Line ride a few minutes early.

You can add your payment method for your Lyft Line ride by following the steps below:
  1. Open the Lyft  app
  2. Tap on your profile
  3. Tap on the Payment tab
  4. Tap Add credit card
  5. Enter your commuter benefits prepaid card information

 Employees can not submit claims for Lyft or UberAt this time, you can only use your commuter benefits prepaid card for line rides and can't purchase a flat fare pass or ride pass using this payment method.

Follow the steps below to request a Lyft Line from the app:

  1. Open the  Lyft   app
  2. Tap on the Line mode
  3. Set up your pickup and destination
  4. Make sure that commuter benefits prepaid card is selected as the method of payment since you won't be able to change it after the ride is requested
  5. Request a Line ride
