There are several important terms related to hiring and onboarding that employers should be aware of.

Hiring and Onboarding Terminology

  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Requires employers to pay covered employees who are not otherwise exempt at least the federal minimum wage and overtime pay of one-and-one-half-times the regular rate of pay.
  • Overtime: Hours worked over 40 in a workweek by employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • W-2 Form: An IRS form used by employees as part of filing their income tax every year.
  • W-4 Employee Withholding Allowances: Used by employers to withhold the correct federal income tax from employee's pay.
